The Portage County Jail was opened in May of 1995 as a 24 hour full service facility located in the Portage County Justice Center, 8240 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, Ohio. Both male and female adult prisoners are housed in the Portage County Jail.
All bonds for inmates can be paid at the Clerk of Courts office at the Ravenna Courthouse, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Questions regarding bonds or any court related information should also be directed to the Clerk of Courts office, at 330-297-3644.
Municipal Court bonds can also be paid at the Portage County Jail after 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or any time on Saturday and Sunday.
Mail for inmates must go through the U.S. Postal Service. All incoming mail will be opened and inspected for contraband. We do not accept packages for inmates; they will be returned to sender. The following items are not acceptable for inmates: nude or partially nude photos, Polaroid pictures, writing materials such as paper, cards, stamps or envelopes, books, pamphlets, magazines, or newspapers. We also will censor mail containing the following: lipstick, perfume, stickers, glitter, glue, tape or unknown substances.
This program began in March 2011 in order for inmates to make all the Jail uniforms. A sewing instructor comes to the Jail three times a week to teach inmates how to sew, using several different sewing machines for this program.
This program involves the use of inmates for general cleaning, mowing, washing/waxing county vehicles, carpentry projects, assisting in the maintenance of the Justice Center, as well as working at other non-profit organizations in the county.
