About the Academy
Has your child expressed an interest in pursuing a career in public safety? The Portage County Sheriff's Office Junior Deputy Academy is a free program designed to give young and explorative minds and inside glance at daily operations of a law enforcement agency that serves their local communities. This 3-day educational program will give students the opportunity to learn, listen, and interact with professionals across the agency have chosen careers in their respective divisions. Throughout this time, they'll be introduced to the functionality and daily operations of the court, uniform patrol division, dispatch center, detective bureau, and jail.
To provide a comfortable and effective learning environment for our students, class size is limited to ensure each child receives quality instruction. All applications must be downloaded and submitted through our website, PortageSheriff.com.

Student & Parent Requirements
- Children must be between 9 and 16 years of age at the time of the course
- Children must reside in or attend school in Portage County
- Parents are responsible to provide the child with breakfast and a packed lunch on Wednesday, August 17th and Thursday, August 18th; lunch will be provided on the last day of the program, Friday, August 19th
- Parents are responsible to provide transportation to and from the Portage County Sheriff's Office - 8240 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, OH 44266 (Drop off between 8am and 8:30am - Pickup at 2:30pm)
